Inspiring Stories

Perhaps you have been boating to Catalina for most of your life, or you are a resident of past resident of the Island and recognize Catalina as one of  our nation’s great ecological treasures. You can play a lasting part in its protection for future generations to enjoy, as you have, by leaving a legacy gift to the Catalina Island Conservancy in your estate plan.

Members and supporters who name the Conservancy in their estate plans, and let us know that they have done so, will be welcomed into our Legacy Society. Join the growing group of people who want to see the Island continue to be a have on wildlife, natural beauty and spectacular coastline long after their own lifetime.

Whatever your stage Iife, your financial circumstances or your charitable goals, your financial advisor can handle the paperwork and show you how you can make a gift that benefits you and your loved ones, as well as the Island you care about. The Conservancy will work with you and your advisor if you wish. Have them call Development Department at 562-437-8555 or email donate@catalinaconservancy.org.

Robert Wald and Suzanne Cranfill-Wald

Just after they were introduced to each other over 30 years ago by mutual friends, Suzanne and Robert started visiting Catalina Island. Now both retired from the motion picture industry, their love of exploring Catalina Island by land and air has inspired them to support the Catalina Island Conservancy. “…It wasn’t until we had made a few more trips out that we began to learn much about the work of the Catalina Island Conservancy. We started with a basic membership and then, over the last 25 years or so, we have gradually increased our commitment. We have also taken the Conservancy’s naturalist training courses to become more familiar with the specific challenges facing the Conservancy”

Roger and Judith Wilson

“The pleasure and connections we have had in Catalina dates back to the 1960s….We love Catalina, [and] we are very impressed with what the Conservancy has done to return the Island back to its natural state.” The Wilsons have placed no stipulations on how their resources will be used. “We both believe that the Conservancy will know the right way to allocate the money when the time comes.”

Terry and Larry Grill

Catalina played a prominent role in the emotional legacy left behind by Terry Grill’s grandparents and parents. Her grandparents spent their honeymoon at the Hotel St. Catherine in 1924, coming back to the Island often after the Casino was built to dance together to the sound of big band music. Her parents introduced her and her brother to one of their favorite weekend destinations via the water on their boats.
